Create Great Racetrack Games

(2 ratings)

Ah, an afternoon at the racetrack.  While you’re enjoying the sun and waiting for the green flag to drop, there’s a new way to show your skill and spend time with friends and family – Cornhole.

It sounds silly. But it’s quickly becoming the most popular thing found at campsites since the invention of motorhome-safe toilet paper.

Also known as Corn Toss or Bean Toss, Cornhole is similar to horseshoes except instead of metal shoes and stakes, you use wooden boxes and soft bags. As a kid, we had lawn darts. But after nicking my brother with the metal spear, lawn darts became extinct at our house. Cornhole is not only much safer than lawn darts and horseshoes…it’s also completely portable…no lawn or sand pit needed.

You can create your very own Team 48 Cornhole game with a few basic tools and several products from your local Lowe’s.  The project is easy – just measure twice, cut your different elements to size, assemble and paint.  You can even leave the final assembly until you reach the track to make it easier to transport.

The detailed directions, tool needs and shopping list are available at www.LowesRacing.com/TrackStyle .  It takes only a few hours to construct.  You can create your own Team 48 custom paint scheme with Valspar paints – just allow a day to dry before you pack for the racetrack.

For the beanbags, you can make your own with dried beans, rice, dried corn or plastic beads from the craft store, or just buy them ready made at your local toy store. Just make sure they are regulation size.

Now to the rules:  Divide into teams of one to two players.  Each player tosses bags at the opposite platform. There are four bags allowed per player per inning.  You may specify as many innings as you would like.  The first player to 21 wins.

Scoring is simple:  You earn three points for every bag that goes in the hole and one point for each bag that stays on the platform.

For more specific rules, and information on the Cornhole game, go to The American Cornhole Association’s website at www.playcornhole.org. You’ll find tons of information on rules…tournaments…even apparel!
