It’s a common phrase in NASCAR – “wreckers or checkers” - especially with restrictor-plate races. The driver either takes the checkered flag and heads to victory lane, or the racecar ends up on a wrecker. Johnson is most familiar with the “wreckers” scenario at 'Dega, although he did take the "checkers" in this year's Daytona 500.

Jimmie Johnson survived a wild race under the lights at Richmond International Raceway on Saturday night. He came from the back of the field multiple times to finish 12th and extend his points lead.

“Friday and Saturday weren’t fun…but everybody worked real hard to get the cars right and we had a great race car today,” said Johnson, who finished third in Sunday's STP 400.

This weekend’s event at the recently repaved Kansas track may not be predictable, but one thing is for sure – Johnson will be a factor at Kansas.
