Fontana is Calling

To commemorate the first day of spring, March 20, Jimmie Johnson’s No. 48 Chevy will have some additional character during the next three NASCAR Sprint Cup weekends. The Lowe’s marketing campaign bird and green accents will adorn the No. 48 Lowe's Spring is Calling Chevrolet SS for the races in Fontana, Calif., Martinsville, Va. and Fort Worth, Texas.

Hopefully, the new look will help Johnson "spring" back from his tire troubles in Bristol and into Victory Lane at Auto Club Speedway. Johnson will be using chassis No. 48-799 as the primary for California, which he drove to top-five finish at Chicagoland Speedway last September.

Johnson's thoughts on heading to Fontana:

“I love going back to California to race. If I had a home track, Fontana is definitely mine. It was the site of my first win in ’02 so it’s very special to me. I have some local favorite restaurants I like to hit up and get to see a lot of friends. We have a full day of media on Thursday – which is great to be able to stop in Los Angeles on the way out there and hit that market from a media standpoint. We are doing some cool mainstream media hits – “The Queen Latifah Show” and “EXTRA.” Its good for me, good for Lowe’s and good for the sport.”

Race Statistics:

  • Five wins (April 2002, September 2007 & 2008, October 2009, February 2010)
  • One pole (September 2008)
  • 12 top-five finishes and 14 top-10s in 19 starts
  • Sprint Cup's best average finish of 5.7
  • Sprint Cup's best driver rating (119.6 of a possible 150 points)
  • Has led 851 laps and has completed all laps attempted (100 percent of 4,484 laps)

MEDIA DAY IN LA: Johnson will land in California a few hours early on Thursday to hit some major media outlets in Los Angeles. He will join the “Young Hollywood” webcast (EMBED LINK: www.younghollywood.com) briefly before stopping to film a segment for “Extra” and make a guest appearance on “The Queen Latifah Show.” Follow @LowesRacing on Twitter for updates on airtimes.

BLUE BUNNY HELMET OF HOPE: Last week at Bristol, the Jimmie Johnson Foundation announced this year’s format for the Blue Bunny Helmet of Hope. The BBHOH campaign allows fans and consumers across the country to nominate five of their favorite education-focused charities, organizations supporting K-12 public education, including Parent/Teacher Associations, to receive a $25,000 grant, a Blue Bunny ice cream party and special recognition on Johnson’s race helmet. Nominations will be accepted at www.helmetofhope.org  through April 4. Ten semifinalists will be selected from these nominations. The public vote to choose the final five grant recipients will take place April 17 through 24.
