Texas Dominance

Jimmie Johnson, once again, is among one of the favorites to win this week's Duck Commander 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. Johnson has won twice in the last four races at the 1.5-mile track. In last November's impressive Chase performance, Johnson led his No. 48 Lowe's Chevy SS 255 laps, and straight to a third victory at the speedway.

Come Sunday, Johnson and Team 48 seek their first win of the 2014 season and their fourth win in the Lone Star State. Time to don cowboy hats and fire off the tradtional six-shooters!

STAT LEADER:  Johnson leads several categories in the season-to-date rankings after six Cup races this year. Johnson notably has the best average running position (8.7); the most laps led (493) and the highest driver rating (115.6).

CHASSIS CHOICES: Crew chief Chad Knaus has selected Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 48-797 which Johnson drove to Victory Lane last November at Texas. The backup car is Chassis No. 48-784 which Johnson most recently raced last season at Michigan International Speedway in June.

INTERMEDIATE VICTOR: Johnson ranks first among drivers all-time at 1.5-mile tracks with 15 wins and 4,163 laps led. In 10 starts on 1.5-mile tracks in 2013, Johnson had one win (Texas in November), four top-five finishes, nine top-10s and an average finish of 7.1.

Race Statistics:

  • In 21 starts at Texas Motor Speedway: three wins (2007, 2012, 2013), 10 top-five finishes and 16 top-10s.
  • Average starting spot of 8.5 and an average finish of 8.7
  • One of three drivers to win from the pole position in the 26-race Cup history at Texas. Started the Nov. 4, 2012, event from the pole and led 168 laps en route to Victory Lane.
  • Second-best average running position of 10.3
  • Second-highest driver rating at Texas with a score of 106.4
Johnson's thoughts on racing at Texas:

JIMMIE JOHNSON, DRIVER, NO. 48 LOWE’S SPRING IS CALLING CHEVROLET SS (ON TEXAS.):“Texas is one of the more interesting racetracks we race on. The characteristics of the track – the bumps and the surface will make for an exciting race. So far with six winners in six races the racing in 2014 has been really exciting for the fans. We’ve run up front and led a lot, but haven’t been able to finish the job. I’m not too sure what the tire situation will be this weekend – if it will be the same tire as California or not – but it’s been a good track for us in the past, and it would be great to get our first win of the season this weekend.”
