On The Pit Box
LIKE WITH ANY PROJECT, careful planning, preparation and fast execution are the keys to success at the racetrack. We spend days and days planning for every possible scenario that could happen in a race and prepare our tools and supplies for each so when something does happen, we’re ready to deal with it.
While fans are working on their spring cleaning at home, the time leading up to the Daytona 500 is when the race team does its spring cleaning and planning. We evaluate all of our equipment, do the routine maintenance and make any repairs. We look for more efficient and cost-effective ways of doing things. We update all of our tools with the innovative new products from Kobalt so we’re ready to tackle any situation at the track.
We also prepare our No. 48 transporter. Not only do we perform maintenance on the truck itself – it does travel more than 80,000 miles a year – we do spring cleaning throughout to get our traveling “garage” ready for the season.
Most importantly, we get our racecars ready for the season. While the Hendrick engine program is building great, reliable engines, our team is building the chassis for the cars, hanging the sheet metal, working on all of the components, studying shock and spring combinations and getting the cars ready to go on the track.
Just like spring cleaning at home, this preparation and maintenance is critical to keeping our team operating efficiently. And, the planning helps us execute the work quickly. For us, it’s all about speed and reliable performance. And at your house, it’s about getting the spring cleaning done so you can enjoy watching racing. See how you can apply Chad’s spring preparation approach to get your house ready for race season.
