New Hampshire International Speedway

The track surface has taken a beating because of the weather -- the frigid winters are followed by summers that grow deceptively scorching -- and some egregious paving mistakes to which construction companies have confessed. In 2002, the bottom of each turn was extended by 12 feet, essentially adding another racing lane, and repaved. But because some of the new asphalt broke up during the July 2002 race, the turns were repaved again before the 2003 races. SAFER barriers (soft wall technology) were added to the outside walls in each of the turns before the second race in 2003.
